Young Hollywood has a bit of fun...

I seem to be going crazy for magazine related iphone apps at the moment. Last night I downloaded the Pop app which enables you to capture symbols within the actual magazine and then watch a video of additional stills and footage from the spread you are looking at. I thought that this was a nice medium between hardcopy magazines and those online- as Dasha Zhukova explains in her editors letter.

Another app which I have gone crazy for is the one for the magazine Nylon- in particular the Nylon TV part which links you to a multitude of behind the scenes videos from Nylon cover shoots and interviews with celebs. I have always been interested in Nylon but recently I have become mildly obsessed with it (and no, this is most definitely NOT a result of Peaches Geldof working there). Nylon features some really great bands (both established and up and coming ones), it has some interesting features on customising and insights into the business of the fashion industry, and its fashion spreads are particularly inspiring because they feature WEARABLE clothes which are styled in a funky, eclectic and edgy way. The photography is playful, casual and unassuming- the models are mostly out on the streets, on the beach or in other outdoor locations which gives the spreads a certain freshness and ease which is far from the often intimidating feel of 'high fashion' editorial magazines. Nylon also has an annual DENIM issue which I just love because I think every girl/guy should have at least one item of denim in their wardrobe- especially now that denim shirts, jackets, playsuits and shorts are back in fashion. Nylon also frequently has the cream of the young Hollywood fashion crop on its covers which inadvertently draws you in- some of my favourites have been Mary-Kate Olsen, Sienna Miller and Rachel Bilson.
