Dasha Zhukova- fashion maverick, editor of dreams and all around slick lady.

POP magazine is definitely creeping up close to the number one spot of my favourite magazines. I was reading through it last night whilst waiting for my (glorious home-made) soup to cook and was deeply impressed by the intelligence and insight of its features- more of this to follow in tomorrows post. I have only got into POP in the last year and so I don't feel able to give an entirely comprehensive argument for this but I do think that the magazine, as it stands, under the new (as of Feb 2009) leadership of editor-in-chief Dasha Zhukova is an extremely well researched, well presented and innovative publication. The previous editor Katie Grand is now the editor-in-chief of the new, and equally fabulous, magazine LOVE. (I have also only just discovered through Wikipedia that Katie Grand grew up in Selly Oak, Birmingham where I currently live!!! This is an enormous source of hope and inspiration!!) Dasha is daughter of the Russian oligarch Alexander Zhukov and has her own fashion label so you would expect both her editorial and personal style to be impeccable- you would not be wrong. Dasha is naturally very beautiful but, like Alexa Chung, never appears over-done or over-styled, preferring to wear simple but elegant clothing with little jewellery and accessories. A large portion of her wardrobe appears to be black, but she keeps the look from becoming too bland with statement jackets and shoes.

This beautiful Rodarte dress is kept young and edgy with a soft leather blazer and metallic stiletto court shoes.

A  Balmain jacket is kept from looking too dramatic or try-hard with a simple white tshirt.

Looking sexy in leather but in a chic and modern way with a grey top and t-bar wedge sandals.

In all black but working the structural trend with a nipped in waist, pleated skirt and AMAZING waved wedge, mary-jane type heels!

Continuing her trend of statement jackets, Dasha wears an over-sized camel blazer (loving the gold button detail) paired with a simple white tshirt and denim shorts, plus a pair of snakeskin courts. I love how she dresses up wardrobe basics with killer heels- a lesson we can all learn!!

Looking feminine in cream lace, but with a touch of sex-kitten (notice the sheer sleeves and peep-toe sandals with dark nail-polish)

I really admire how Dasha has the confidence and self-assurance to wear minimal make-up and fuss-free hair without looking drab. Like our own British fashion icon Alexa she makes even the most simple outfit look stylish, and even the most modern, high-fashion, outfit look effortless.
