I want it all; the money, the fame, the cars, the clothes

When I think of fierce and extreme fashion there are two celebrities who spring to mind: Lady Gaga and Rihanna. More on Gaga another day, today I'm loving the Barbados beauty. No-one has a better reason to come out fighting with a seriously edgy, in-your-face, new look after the ordeal Rihanna has been through. I have to say I wasn't too impressed with the first two singles and the music videos from Rihanna's new album Rated R- especially the colour palette in the Russian Roulette video which only succeeded in making her look ill. So I was pleased to see our girl back on form in the latest video for her single 'Hard'.

The theme of the video is military, hardcore warrior. Utility-chic is back in this season but true to form Rihanna rocks the look in her own, seriously sexy way- in one scene wearing only a string of bullets and mickey mouse style helmet, in another scene wearing a khaki shirt with only black tape across her boobs underneath. I love the bold 80s make up in this section of the video too- breaking the rule you were always told, not to wear dark smoky eye make-up with red lips. Because of her colouring Rihanna pulls this look off with ease.

By far my favourite look of the video is the extreme body-con dress with enormous, almost dinosaur-like spikes on the shoulders worn with black lace-up army style boots. On any other person this would be a look that would look contrived and forced, but Rihanna just struts through explosions like it's a walk in the park. Yeah, she is hard- one girl you don't mess with.

  1. The outfits do rule, and I'm loving her hair, am getting so tempted to do this! But shame the song is a bit stupid. And the Minnie Mouse ears on the helmet are anything but hard.
