Photo Diary of Paris- Day Two

VERSAILLES.

Versailles is the epitome of French opulence and grandeur. From its humble beginnings as a one time hunting lodge to its current status as the largest and most extravagant European palace it has developed, through the French Revolution(s) to become one of the iconic landmarks and tourist attractions of France. You would have to spend days there to fully appreciated and digest the architecture, interior decoration, sculpture, artwork and landscape gardening which make up the palace and its acres of gardens. This was the second time I visited Versailles and I still haven't seen everything, and left eagerly anticipating my next trip. The magnificence of the buildings exterior was mostly too great to capture in the small frame of a photograph so I focussed upon the details- the many chandeliers, the individual sculptures, areas of gold framework, wallpapers, embellished coving and marble columnades.
